Namibia

Namibia

Namibia is such a hidden gem with it’s dramatic landscapes, roads quiet enough to feel like you have the desert entirely to yourself, and wildlife encounters that still feel surreal months later (yes, a meerkat fell asleep in my arms). From Etosha’s game drives to the towering red dunes of Sossusvlei, this is one of those countries that completely exceeded my expectations!

Below you’ll find everything I’ve written about Namibia so far – itineraries, guides, and tips to help you plan your own trip.

Quick Summary

  • Top Tip: Book your 4×4 rental and your Etosha campsites at least 6 months in advance if you’re travelling in peak season, as both sell out.
  • Currency: Namibian Dollars (NAD)
  • Visa: UK, EU and US citizens need a tourist visa. You can either apply for an eVisa in advance or get a visa on arrival (VOA) at the airport. The cost is the same either way: 1600 NAD (£74/$99) for adults.
  • Safety: Very safe. We had no issues with police scams or feeling unsafe walking around, and Namibia is statistically one of the safest countries in Africa. Just avoid driving after dark because of animals on the road.
  • When to go: Dry season (May to October) is the best time for wildlife, as animals gather at the waterholes. It also tends to be a little cooler during this time.
